Physical education

Mrs. Olivas grew up just down the road in Concord, Virginia. She and her younger brother attended school at Concord Elementary before transferring to Appomattox County Schools. Her mother had accepted a job as the Appomattox Elementary school librarian at that time.

After graduating high school, Mrs. Olivas went on to Longwood College to get her degree in Physical Education and Health. She spent her first three years teaching Physical Education in Lynchburg City before accepting a job here at LRES. This is her 29th year teaching. She loves her job and enjoys learning and sharing new activities with her students.

Some of her extracurricular activities include spending time with her husband, two boys and other family, reading, cooking, working out and watching movies.

Mr. West spent his early years living between the West Coast and overseas before moving to Virginia, where he completed high school and won a state basketball championship his senior year. During his college years, he performed with an acrobatic dunk team. He graduated from Liberty University, earning a degree in Psychology and Crisis Management before becoming a certified teacher. Mr. West is passionate about working in school environments that intentionally connect physical activity, mental health, and overall well-being with education.

Outside of school, Mr. West enjoys playing and watching sports, watching funny shows, going on cruises, taking walks with his wife and dog, and discovering new restaurants together.
